The Phish Clifford Ball was a two-day outdoor music festival held in August 1996 in Plattsburgh, NY, organized by the American rock band Phish. It was named after Ernie Clifford, a farmer who allowed the band to use his land for the event. The festival drew approximately 70,000 fans, over double the expected attendance, making it the largest concert in North America at the time. The festival showcased Phish's eclectic sound and improvisation style, as well as a diverse lineup of 36 other acts, including Dave Matthews Band and the Black Crowes. It featured several unique attractions, including a Ferris wheel, art installations, and a drive-in movie theater playing cult-classic films. The Clifford Ball is considered a milestone in concert history, setting the standard for other large-scale outdoor festivals to come.
